NZ Sire Shinko King Euthanased Aged 21

In New Zealand, Irish-bred & Japanese Gr1-winning stallon Shinko King (Fairy King-Rose Of Jericho, by Alleged) "succumbed to a lengthy battle with laminitis" & was euthanased at Paxton Park aged 21, reported theinformant.co.nz. Shinko King (who stood his 1st season in New Zealand in 1998 & moved from Ashwell Farm to Paxton Park in 2007) sired 5 Gr1-winners in 3 different countries: Eskimo Queen (Australia's Gr1 Coolmore Classic & Gr1 Queensland Oaks); C'est La Guerre (Gr1 NZ Derby & placed in the Melbourne Cup); Bramble Rose (Gr1 NZ Oaks); Barinka (Gr1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes); & Thumbs Up Hong Kong Gr1 Classic Mile). His other stakes-winners included Madame Shinko, Shinko Bay, Viz Vitae, Fairy Tale, Eternal Melody, Irish Colleen, Shi Kin Fly & Kasumi. On the track himself, Shinko King won 8 races in Japan (including the 1997 Gr1 Takamatsunomiya Hai over 1200m) & also finished 3rd in Hong Kong's Gr1 International Bowl. In the US, Meadow Farm "the Virginia birthplace of 1973 US Triple Crown winner Secretariat, will be auctioned on May 22 following the foreclosure of the Virginia State Fair" reported US Daily Racing Form. The fair bought Meadow Farm (located 25 miles north of Richmond) in 2003 & "331-acres remain from the original 2,798-acre property that Christopher Chenery purchased in 1932 to launch his Virginia thoroughbred breeding interests".
