Typhoon Tracy Full-Brother To Stand At Glenlogan Park In 2010
Leading Queensland stud farm Glenlogan Park has announced that debut stallion Red Element (Red Ransom-Tracy's Element, by Last Tycoon) will join the stud's roster of colonially-bred sires for the upcoming season (Glenlogan Park's flag-bearer stallion Show A Heart is firmly entrenched amongst the top stallions in the country and one of their first season sires, Jet Spur, is currently leading all other stallions in Australia for number of 2YO winners.) A Gr3-placed dual stakes-winner of 5 races Red Element is a full-brother to multiple Gr1-winning Australian mare Typhoon Tracy, and also a full-brother to multiple Gr1-placed filly Kylie Kwong from the immediate family of Gr1 winners Danasinga & Suntagonal. "With Red Ransom's sons going so well at present, and his full-sister Typhoon Tracy proving almost unbeatable on the track, we are obviously very excited about the future prospects of standing a horse with the depth of Red Element," commented Glenlogan Park's principal Jon Haseler. "We have been actively pursuing a suitable son of Red Ransom to add to our stallion roster for quite some time now, so to be able to offer breeders one that, in our opinion, has a pedigree better than any other standing in the country is a real coup for both our clients and the farm." Meanwhile Glenlogan Park's manager Steve Morley noted: "With the addition of Red Element to our roster in 2010, we will be able to offer breeders high quality, colonially-bred sons of Redoute's Choice, Flying Spur, Tale Of The Cat and Red Ransom, as well as a Champion Sire who is the last remaining commercial Star Kingdom line descendant. Red Element is a wonderful addition to our roster and adds further depth to the sires we have who can compliment Northern Dancer line mares." Red Element will stand his initial season at an introductory price of $8,800, and he will be syndicated amongst breeders with a limited number of shares being available. (Mar 11)

2010 Victorian Jumps Season Start Delayed
Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) has announced that the 2010 jumps racing season will now commence on Saturday, April 17 at Hamilton in Victoria. The new date is 11 days later than originally planned, due "to delays in constructing the new obstacle." As a result two of the three races programmed for Warrnambool on April 6 have been transferred to Hamilton, which will now host four jumps races over their two-day Cup Carnival on April 17 & 18. "As outlined when launching the 2010 jumps racing program, the April 6 start date was reliant upon there being no delays in the design, construction and trialling of the new obstacle," stated RVL chief executive, Rob Hines. "As it stands... only one jumps race will be lost from the 2010 program. We have made a commitment to the AJRA that we will implement their required changes to the obstacles prior to the 2010 season and they are supportive of this minor delay. In addition, RVL also announced that it has converted eight flat races to highweights in March, with a further 19 allocated between April and August. Hines said, "Highweights provide an opportunity for jumps horses and jockeys to earn additional prize money and in the short term, improve their fitness ahead of the jumps season." (Mar 11)

Strong Overseas Entries For Hong Kong International Events
The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has received a record number of entries for the two international races on April 25. Entries "for both the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup and the Champions Mile include outstanding G1 performers from every continent." HKJC executive director of racing William A Nader commented: "This response from horsemen from around the world reflects the continuing and developing strength of racing in Asia as well as the APQEII's status as one of the world's major 2000m races; and the huge number of entries for the Champions Mile is a clear indication both of the growing popularity of the Asian Mile Challenge and of the co-operation between its member jurisdictions, Australia, Dubai, Japan and Hong Kong". Among the contenders for the APQEII is Australian-bred Inglis Easter graduate & South Arican Champion 2YO Musir (trained by Mike De Kock who saddled Archipenko to win the race in 2008). Last month Musir won the US$250,000 Gr3 UAE 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Meydan in Dubai. Entries for the Champions Mile from Australia are Rangirangdoo, Daneleigh and last year's third Dao Dao, while one of South Africa's representatives is Australian-bred Our Giant, a Gr1-winning half-brother to Singapore Horse of the Year Rocket Man. US Track Monmouth Puts On US$50m 50-Day Program
With the US industry still struggling as a result of the global financial crisis, New Jersey racetrack Monmouth Park has announced "an elite 50-day summer meeting featuring an average US$1 million per day in purses under an agreement announced on Tuesday between the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority and the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association". According to thoroughbredtimes.com, the announcement easily eclipses "the planned US$723,000 per day in prize money slated by the New York Racing Association for the recently expanded 40-day Saratoga Race Course meeting in Saratoga Springs, New York. Commenting on what has been described "a bold move, coinciding with cuts to the actual number of race dates," Monmouth GM Robert Kulinna said, "We saw what works; the player wants a better product with full fields, looking into the future, we feel this is what racing in the country will look like. We're cautiously optimistic that the model will work out. The goal is to sell more bets." (Mar 11)

Major Prizemoney Cuts at Hollywood Park
In California, meanwhile, "Hollywood Park reduced stakes purses by 27.5% to $5.8-million for the 60-day spring/summer meet that begins April 21," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The move coincides with a reduction in stakes races from 49 to 45 from 2009. The cutbacks impacted on the racetrack's two richest events - the Gr1 Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes (down from US$700,000 to US$500,000) & the Gr1 American Oaks (which suffered a massive cut from US$700,000 to US$250,000. And the Gr2 Ack Ack Handicap, Gr3 Cinema Handicap and Gr3 Round Table Handicap "have all been shelved this year" among a number of races put on the backburner as California continues to grapple "with the struggling economy". (Mar 11)

Papa Clem stands for US$7,500 at Legacy Ranch in Clements, California. (Mar 11)
